Rutgers Office of Information TechnologyAssistant Lab Supervisor (April 2009 to May 2012) |
After being interviewed in February 2009, I was hired in April 2009 as a Consultant-in-Training for the on-campus computer labs. Following the completion of summer training, I was promoted to Consultant at the Cook/Douglass Computer Labs. I worked one full semester as a Consultant maintaining the labs before being promoted to a Residential Networking (ResNet) Consultant in January 2010.
As a Consultant, I maintained the computer labs for patron use and helped patrons with any problems they had with the computers in the lab. The job consisted mostly of hands-on troubleshooting and customer service.
As a ResNet Consultant, I was dispatched to the dorm rooms of Rutgers students living on the Cook and Douglass campuses to troubleshoot their internet connectivity issues. Problems and duties ranged from broken ports, faulty networking settings, router setup, and virus remediation.
In January of 2011, I became a part of the supervisory and managerial team for the Cook/Douglass Computer Labs. As a member of this team, I reviewed over 100 applications for the Consultant position and interviewed over 15 candidates. I joined a NBCS-wide team that wrote and prepared a 255-page handbook for all incoming hires. Specifically, I co-wrote the 30-page section on the Windows 7 Operating System and associated Consultant programs while also contributing to the editing of the rest of the guide. We also prepared all of the one-on-one training modules and review questions that all new hires were required to do. Over the course of the summer, I helped train and mentor the new employees.
I co-organized and lead the ResNet aspect of the Fall 2011 move-in for the Cook/Douglass campuses, which included arranging the distribution of over 20 student employees to the various residential buildings on campus in order to help the freshmen move in and get connected to the internet. Preparation included training consultants for the duties they would have to do, especially Consultants who were not ResNet certified.
Beginning January 2012, I was promoted to Assistant Lab Supervisor. My duties and responsibilities included assisting in the oversight of the ResNet Consultants and the operations of the computer labs. I reviewed over 150 applications and interviewed over 25 people for consultant positions with in the computer labs. I also served as the liaison to the managerial staff and mentor to six of our consultants. I trained over 30 consultants across the entire OIT network in customer service in a three-hour training session.
